Student Services has a comprehensive program in place to support minority students. It includes:
-The Student Assistance Centre, which runs orientations, supports persons with disabilities, provides psychological support, and offers academic success assistance (including activities for foreign students);

-The Student Life Office, which welcomes, informs, and supports university students from outside Quebec. It offers activities to help them adapt to campus life and get to know Quebec, a bilingual guidebook, a buddy program, and one-on-one meetings to help students with formalities and the adjustment process.

A brief description of the programs sponsored by the institution to support underrepresented groups within the faculty:

Université Laval has a welcome program (meetings) and training opportunities for new staff (including faculty). In one such training session on intercultural communication, participants learn to better understand and interact more effectively with people from different cultures.

Université Laval also has an employment equity program wherein preference is given to qualified minorities during hiring, appointments, and promotions.

In addition, Université Laval offers a French program to help new faculty and their spouses adjust to life in Quebec City. The university covers the tuition fees for French as a foreign language courses pursuant to its policy on French use and the faculty’s collective agreement.
