Univert Laval is a student group that reaches out to students all across campus. Its goal is to raise awareness of environmental issues in the Université Laval community by:
- educating the community about the environment and eco-friendly behaviours,
- helping people get involved in environmental initiatives, and
- working with the university’s administration, schools, and faculties to help make campus greener.

1. À Laval, buvons local
Goal: Make Université Laval a bottled water–free campus
À Laval, buvons local! was created in fall 2010 to get people on campus to drink tap water. The ultimate goal of the campaign is to ban the sale of bottled water on campus. It raises the university community’s awareness of the ethical, environmental, and economic issues associated with bottled water and highlights the benefits of responsible consumption of local water.
2. L’Allée Fruitée
Goal: Plant fruit trees and bushes along the bike path
Phase 1 was completed on October 31, 2011, with the planting of apple and pear trees
Phase 2 was completed in summer 2012 with the installation of a sign about the L’Allée Fruitée project
The project took root in fall 2008. Univert Laval wanted to create a fruit garden for everyone on campus. To blend in with its environment, it would be maintained using simple methods ensuring its long-term success. That’s when the idea of an orchard emerged. It would be organic, require little maintenance, and be an ideal way to promote citizen farming. Eight fruit trees were finally planted on October 31, 2011. A sign provides information about each tree.
3. Paniers BIO (Organic baskets)
The goal of this initiative was to set up and promote a counter selling baskets of organic food on the Université Laval campus. The initiative was completed in spring 2013.
4. Cloth wrapping (furoshiki)
Goal: Inform the university community of an earth-friendly alternative to giftwrap (furoshiki).
“Furoshiki is a type of traditional Japanese wrapping cloth used to transport clothing, gifts, bentō, or other goods.” (Wikipédia) The technique can be used to wrap any kind of object by tying a square cloth around it any number of ways.
