Does the institution have a sustainability plan that meets the criteria for this credit?:
Yes

A brief description of how multiple stakeholder groups were involved in developing the plan:

Thirteen members of the Administrative Leadership Development Program came together to form the University of Missouri's Sustainability Task Force. The 2009 Plan develops recommendations in the sustainability plan for
the University of Missouri.

Over 17 months, members of the committee engaged with faculty, staff and students across the campus representing a variety of areas, departments and disciplines. Committee members traveled across campus and the state to view some of the best practices used in sustainability. Notably, some of those best practices are already engaged here at Mizzou.

A brief description of the plan’s measurable goals :

The Task Force identified seven areas to be improved and have created measurable specific goals in the following:

• Building Design
• Environment
• Procurement
• Recycling and Waste Management
• Research & Instruction
• Transportation
• Utilities

Committee members sought input from a wide range of
faculty, staff and students on campus. Individuals with expertise in recycling, power generation, instruction, construction, policy making and others were included in the discussion. This report contains an executive summary and seven reports, one on each area, with recommendations for
implementation to continue MU’s work in sustainable practices.

A brief description of how progress in meeting the plan’s goals is measured:

The University of Missouri is dedicated to environmentally sustainable policies and practices that promote responsible stewardship of existing resources and the environment. This includes, but is not limited to, acquiring and using energy-saving, environmentally friendly and renewable/recyclable resources and materials; providing educational programs, resources and incentives for sustainable practices by students, faculty and staff; participating in recycling
programs and the safe disposal of materials; researching and testing new sustainable initiatives; and taking proactive steps to preserve and protect natural resources.

Each unit or department within the University is encouraged to evaluate current policies and practices on a regular basis as a tool for measurability, with the ultimate goal of improving overall sustainability.
