A brief description of the institution's indoor air quality plan, policy, and/or practices:

Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) is simply defined as maintaining an indoor environment that is conducive to getting work done in a safe and healthy way. Environmental Health and Safety is responsible to ensure that people are not exposed to health hazards. Many IAQ complaints are not the result of health hazards but are nuisance issues due to poor circulation, make-up air, humidity, and temperature control. Campus Facilities Facility Operations maintains and coordinates the building's air handler systems that supply a comfortable indoor environment.

IAQ complaints should first be directed to the respective Building Coordinator who will coordinate the necessary resources to address the problem. A list of the campus building coordinators can be found in the campus directory or can be found at their website. If a health hazard is suspected, the building coordinator or Campus Facilities will contact the Industrial Hygiene Office at EHS as a resource to provide IAQ support. A brief process flow chart is shown below for reference:

* Report IAQ complaint or issue to the respective supervisor or manager.

* Suspect Area Supervisor(s) and Area Occupant(s) complete the appropriate questionnaires.

* Contact Building Coordinator of the suspect IAQ area to focus and coordinate resources.

* Contact Campus Facilities Facility Operations as a resource to investigate and address building air handler system reviews.

* Contact the EHS Industrial Hygiene Office as a resource to provide IAQ support if a health hazard (not immediate) is suspected.

Contact EHS directly (573-882-7018 during regular working hours, Campus Facilities Customer Service Center at 573-882-8211, or MUPD at 573-882-7201, during nights, weekends, or holidays) for an IMMEDIATE health hazard situation.

Before going to your building coordinator issuer should fill out the IAQ Questionnaires:

* The Supervisor Questionnaire (PDF) is for the area supervisor to complete.
* The Occupant Questionnaire (PDF) is for all complaint area occupants to complete. This will help the Building Coordinator, Campus Facilities Facility Operations, and EHS pinpoint potential IAQ sources that may be a problem.

If there is an IMMEDIATE health hazard, please contact the University Certified Industrial Hygienists Dennis Elmore or Scott Campbell.
