A brief description of steps taken to ensure that e-waste is recycled responsibly, workers’ basic safety is protected, and environmental standards are met:

On campus organizations such as Sustain Mizzou safely organizes, educates, and executes e-waste recycling efforts while abiding by all environmental standards. Sustain Mizzou employs the help of other on and off campus organizations such as:
* - Falling Whistles
* - Missouri Student Unions
* - Environmental Health & Safety
* - Tiger Tech
* - MU Sustainability Office
* - MidMO Recycling
* - Greener Libraries Council

A collaborative effort is made to adhere to the following mission:
* LOCAL ACTION: Collect electronic waste at sites on campus and send it to get recycled in an environmentally responsible manner.
* EDUCATION: Educate students, faculty and staff on the environmental and social justice implications of electronics through visual displays, film screenings and online promotion.
* COOPERATION: Cooperate with other establishments and groups on campus and in the community to safely achieve these goals and implement collection and education year-round.

The Missouri e-cycle Standards, also known as MOEST, are followed and were developed to identify common sense strategies that define best management practices for collecting, processing and transporting e-scrap in Missouri that protects the environment. E-cycling businesses that adopt these standards are committed to the responsible management of end-of-life electronic equipment, components and materials.


A brief description of the electronic waste recycling program for institution-generated materials:

Recycling of the following items is available for institutional electronics waste(through receptacles on campus, recycling drives, or other means): batteries, cell phones, computers, light bulbs, printer cartridges, and other E-waste.

In addition to the above items which are recycled in house at Surplus Property, MU also co-sponsors with the Mid-Missouri Solid Waste Management District for collection events open to the public on campus for TV's, microwaves, PDA's, and almost anything else electronic.
