A brief description of the institution’s programs that help increase the diversity of higher education faculty :

Diversity of ideas makes this institution, and the knowledge we create through research and disseminate through
teaching, better and more vigorous. Diversity of ideas derives from unique individuals, including men and
women with various racial-ethnic backgrounds, languages, religious beliefs, sexual orientations, mental and
physical disabilities, national and geographical origins, socio-economic classes, and political views.
Therefore, in order to make this institution better and more academically vigorous, men and women with various
racial-ethnic backgrounds, languages, religious beliefs, sexual orientations, mental and physical disabilities,
national and geographical origins, socio-economic classes, and political views need to be actively sought through
the faculty hiring process.

MU is committed to hiring candidates who best promote the University's mission of preparing students
for a global society.

The University utilizes many different minority search tools when hiring new staff and faculty including:
Minority Recruiting
*American Indian Science and Engineering Society
*Diverse: Issues in Higher Education
*Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education
*IM Diversity
*The Journal of Blacks in Higher Education
*The Kansas City Call
*LatPro
*Mathematicians of the African Diaspora
*Missouri Association for Blacks in Higher Education
*Tutorials for Change: Gender Schemas and Science Careers

Recruiting Women
*IM Diversity
*NSF Women, Minorities and Persons with Disabilities in *Science and Engineering
*Women in Higher Education

In addition, the campus hosts various events such as the MizzouDiversity Summit which aids in education of the
importance of diversity within the faculty at Mizzou. In addition, we offer an opportunity for faculty to present their diversity related research at our Diversity in Action brown-bag lunch series.
