The University of Alberta in Edmonton is one of Canada’s top teaching and research universities, with an international reputation for excellence across the humanities, sciences, creative arts, business, engineering, and health sciences. The university is a member of the U15 universities and the Worldwide Universities Network, an organization of 19 universities on six continents.

Home to more than 39,000 students and 15,000 faculty and staff, the university has an annual budget of $1.7 billion and attracts nearly $450 million in sponsored research revenue. It offers close to 400 undergraduate, graduate and professional programs in 18 faculties on five campuses—including one rural and one francophone.

The University of Alberta is a major economic driver in Alberta with an impact on the Alberta economy estimated at $12.3 billion annually, or five per cent of the province’s gross domestic product. The university is Alberta's fourth-largest employer.

UAlberta has been recognized by the Academic Ranking of World Universities, the QS World University Rankings and the Times Higher Education World University Rankings as one of the top five universities in Canada and one of the top 100 universities worldwide. UAlberta's professors have won more 3M Teaching Fellowships (Canada's top award for undergraduate teaching excellence) than any other Canadian university. In 2014, the University of Alberta was named one of "Canada's Greenest Employers" by Mediacorp Canada Inc. for the sixth straight year in a row.

UAlberta has graduated nearly 250,000 alumni, including Governor General Roland Michener, Prime Minister Joe Clark, Chief Justice of Canada Beverley McLachlin, Premier of Alberta Peter Lougheed and Nobel laureate Richard E. Taylor.
