A brief description of the practice:

CO-CURRICULAR RECORD
http://www.su.ualberta.ca/services/ccr

A joint initiative of the University of Alberta and the Students’ Union, the Co-Curricular Record (CCR) is designed to provide students with official recognition of on-campus volunteer work and involvement. The CCR is an institutionally recognized document of student engagement and student leadership involvement. The purpose of the CCR is to foster both an understanding of, and recognition for, the value of learning and development that occurs for students as a part of university life outside of the classroom. Students involved in campus volunteer work log their hours and involvement into an online database that is then verified by the student and staff leaders of those organizations for its accuracy. Once the validation process has been completed the student receives a reusable electronic copy of their volunteer record signed by the Dean of Students as well as the President of the Students’ Union.

COMMUNITY SERVICE-LEARNING CERTIFICATE
http://www.csl.ualberta.ca/en/Students/Certificate%20Program.aspx

The Certificate in Community Engagement and Service-Learning is awarded to students that have significantly integrated community service-learning (CSL) into their post-secondary education. The knowledge and experience gained through service-learning are applicable to a wide range of careers, including those in non-governmental organizations (NGOs), the volunteer sector, business and government, and academic institutions. Students in all undergraduate programs at the U of A are eligible for the Certificate, which is received upon graduation and noted in the official student transcript. Requirements to receive the certificate include taking a certain number of CSL designated courses as well as an additional non-credit community service opportunity.
