A brief description of the plan of action to achieve waste reduction goals:
In the 2012-2016 Sustainability Plan, the university committed to the following short term waste goal:
"Expand waste reduction initiatives across all campuses and increase the amount of waste diverted from the University of Alberta’s North Campus to 50% by 2015."
High level strategies to reach this goal include waste audits and data tracking, the establishment in 2013 of a Waste Diversion Working Group focused on meeting and exceeding this goal, increasing the capture of organic waste, and reducing packaging waste during purchasing where feasible.
