The activities of the office within the academic and operations spheres of the university have steadily worked to convene topic area focused stakeholders and develop ideas for improvement, investigation, and sustainability progress throughout the years. The office established 20 Goals for 2020, has provided valuable internship experience for students, has engaged large numbers of students/faculty/staff via campus programming, and provided funding and recognition for dozens campus research and operations projects. Much of this is through a range of programs including Sustain IU Working Groups (Food, Energy & the Built Environment, Environmental Quality & Land Use, Resource Use & Recycling, Transportation, Sustainable Technology & Procurement), the Innovation Fund, Campus Catalyst Awards, Sustainability Community of Practice, ISDP, Sustainability Research Development Grants, Green Events, Sustainability Course Development Fellowships, Sustain IU Week, Campus Surveys, Campus Sustainability Advisory Board, and prominent events including the Hoosier 2 Hoosier Sale, Big Red Eats Green, the Energy Challenge, IU Statewide Sustainability Summits, ISDP Bootcamp, and the end of year Spring SUST Symposium. Institution wide sustainability reporting, an increasing statewide role across the IU system of 9 campuses, sustainability conference participation/presentations, and focused work in food purchasing, waste auditing/infrastructure revamping, and GHG emissions reductions also make up efforts of the office.
