Academic Community Engagement (ACE) Grant Program
To encourage student learning and foster innovative academically-based public service universitywide, the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost awards funds to foster the development of academically-based community engagement courses. Awards range from $5K to $13K.

A selection of recent sustainability courses developed by the ACE program include:
-Community-based Stormwater Monitoring and Management
-Interdisciplinary Food Studies: History, Politics and Technology
-Technology and Environmental Justice
-Planning for a Secure and Sustainable Community Food System
-Faith, Culture, Health and Community Organizing in the Coalfields of Virginia


A brief description of the incentives that faculty members who participate in the program(s) receive:

The ACE program provides the following incentives:
1. Funds for faculty development of academically-based community engagement courses. $5K-9K
2. Funds for graduate or undergraduate students to provide academic community engagement courses with ongoing logistical and classroom support throughout the semester. $1K-2K
3. Funds to advance university community partnerships necessary for student academic learning experiences. These funds are intended to enhance partnership capacity not covered by course assistant funds or faculty fellow funds. Up to $1K.
