Does the institution have sustainability-themed housing (residential floor or hall, or theme house) where residents learn about sustainability together and to which residents must apply?:
Yes

A brief description of the themed housing:

Hereford College is one of three undergraduate residential colleges at the University of Virginia. Under the direction of the Principal Nancy Takehashi, a professor of Landscape Architecture, Hereford has pursued active programming built around cultural diversity and environmental sustainability.

Hereford sustainability programming includes short courses, events, and activities on the grounds of the College. Short courses have included waste veggie oil fuels, local foods, building sustainability and more. Sustainability initiatives are overseen by Hereford's core committee on sustainability.

Hereford also houses the Thomas Jefferson Demonstration Garden, a student-run teaching garden made up of Jefferson-documented “useful” plants, including varieties used for the production of food, medicine, textiles, dyes, and other materials that sustain and enhance life. The mission of the garden is to teach people about the continued importance of plants.

Admittance to the Hereford Residential College requires an application.
