Does the institution make cultural competence trainings and activities available to all students?:
Yes

A brief description of the cultural competence trainings and activities:

In addition to courses in multicultural, race, and gender studies, U.Va. prides itself on resources designed to help all students feel at home. Offices offering support and activities include:
• La Alianza
• Disability Services
• Equal Opportunity Programs
• Faculty-Student Mentoring Program
• Kaleidoscope Center for Cultural Fluency
• International Center
• Latino/Hispanic Peer Mentor Program
• Learning Needs and Evaluation Center
• Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Resource Center
• Office of African-American Affairs
• Sustained Dialogue
• University Career Services
• Women’s Leadership Council

U.Va. also encourages students to study abroad for a summer,
a semester, or a full academic year. Advisers in the International Studies Office work closely with students who wish to take courses in such cities as London, Valencia, Shanghai, Lyon, and Rabat or in countries such as Mozambique, Botswana, and Nicaragua. The University also is a partner in Semester at Sea, a program in which students from colleges and universities around the country travel around the world on the floating campus, the MV Explorer.

Many students take advantage of the University’s language houses to improve their language skills while becoming immersed in the culture of their choice. Language housing at U.Va. includes La Casa Bolívar, La Maison Française, Max Kade German House, Russian House, and Shea House (Arabic, Hindi/Urdu, Persian, Japanese, Chinese, and Italian). The International Residential College also gives students a chance to interact with others of diverse international backgrounds and share an interest in global issues and concerns.
