A brief description of the source of non-potable water and how it is used:
UVa has several cisterns that collect water for use at both times of draught and for lanscaping and gardening purposes.
Existing Cisterns:
Underground, in alley behind the Amphitheater – one tank of 6,600 gallons.
Underground beside Garrett Hall – two cisterns each 2,500 gallons.
Above ground beside the Astronomy building for the student garden on the corner of McCormick and Alderman – one tank of 550 gallons.
Proposed Cisterns:
Lannigan Track underground detention (currently being installed) – 25,000 cubic feet = 187,025 gallons.
Underground cisterns at New Cabell Hall courtyard renovation - four tanks each 1,050 gallons.
