A brief description of programs, policies, infrastructure investments, outreach efforts, and/or other factors that contribute to the diversion rate for construction and demolition waste:

Since February 2007, all new buildings and major renovations are required to obtain USGBC LEED certification. Although construction waste recycling is not mandatory, all or nearly all UVA projects implement construction waste recycling programs. The presence of a construction waste materials recovery facility and several local recycling firms allows nearly every project to obtain recycling rates upwards of 90%.
