All eight divisions of The New School are represented in this submission: The New School for General Studies, The New School for Social Research, Milano The New School for Management and Urban Policy, Parsons The New School for Design, Eugene Lang College The New School for Liberal Arts, Mannes College The New School for Music, The New School for Drama, and The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music.

The organizational boundary of The New School's STARS submission was based on the financial control approach, which means the university takes full ownership of all environmental impacts that it can directly influence and reduce.

The New School owns 37% of the space it occupies. As a tenant in many different buildings, The New School does not always pay utilities directly and is not responsible for waste and recycling pick-up and some maintenance, but this is a very small portion of the university's footprint.

In leased spaces where the university either pays directly for a utility or receives electricity consumption statements from a landlord, this data is included in the university's carbon inventory.

And all operational policies included in this STARS submission apply to all occupied spaces (owned or leased), except the buildings noted below.

The apartments at the following addresses are not included in the university's STARS boundary. These spaces are not operated by The New Schhol; they are also deemed de minimis.
