NYU strives to include comprehensive data across all categories, which reflect the university's overall environmental impacts and programs for its main (Washington Square) core and neighborhood, as well as the other buildings occupied by the university throughout New York City. NYU does not have a dedicated separate "campus", but rather owns or leases more than 100 buildings in the city, most of them concentrated around Washington Square Park in downtown Manhattan. These represent more than 13,058,963
square feet of building space.

Operationally, NYU strives to include data related to all buildings which are financially controlled and operated by the university, and which are occupied by university-affiliated students, faculty or staff.

These geographic and operational boundaries frame the campus data set included in our STARS submission.

There are several specific exclusions:

1) The NYU Langone Medical School is a largely autonomous entity which does not fall within the organizational boundary established by this assessment; neither their impacts nor their buildings' square footage are included.

2) The newly-affiliated Polytechnic Institute of NYU (in Brooklyn) remains relatively autonomous in terms of its operational structure, and neither their impacts nor their buildings' square footage are included in this evaluation.

3) This assessment extends only to NYU's buildings and infrastructure within New York City, and not to any NYU-affiliated sites or campuses in other countries, such as NYU's degree-granting campus in Abu Dhabi, UAE or any of the other affiliated "Global Network University" sites.
