PAE-1: Sustainability Coordination

The Sustainability Task Force is a university-wide body of more than 70 student, faculty, and staff volunteers which recommends and implements a comprehensive annual slate of new programs and policies to reduce NYU’s environmental impacts and foster a campus culture of sustainability. More than one hundred Task Force recommendations have been accepted by university leadership. The Task Force is divided into several Working Groups: Energy and Water; Food, Purchasing and Waste; Transportation; Green Building and Campus Planning; Outreach and Engagement; Environmental Assessment; Green Grants; and Academic Initiatives. Each group is co-chaired by both a student and a faculty or staff member.

The NYU Sustainability Office coordinates the University's greening programs, from the Sustainability Task Force to the Green Grants Program, and brings students, staff, and faculty together to not only increase the environmental efficiency of NYU's operations but also create a culture of sustainability in the campus and surrounding community.

The sustainability coordinator provides strategic planning, change management, and communications and policy support for a range of administration-led and grassroots campus greening initiatives. The coordinator’s primary role is to act in support of the Sustainability Task Force, Green Grants, Sustainability Advocate Program, Bike Share, and other initiatives that advance the University's mission of improving environmental performance and fostering a campus culture of sustainability.
