Does the institution have a sustainability plan that meets the criteria for this credit?:
Yes

A brief description of how multiple stakeholder groups were involved in developing the plan:

The development of HPU's Sustainability Report was done by HPU's sustainability coordinator, and contains a plan for future sustainability at the university. The report contains contributions from staff, faculty, and students. Students contributed to the report through various sustainability-related student organizations by detailing the sustainability initiatives students are leading on campus, and through an EPA grant application for a food composting system developed by students. Faculty contributions were made by the science department by detailing the LEED assessment they performed on HPU's academic center building and providing information about the aquaponics system developed for the Hawai`i Loa Campus. HPU staff contributed to the report regarding waste information, energy use information, dining service practices, recycling practices, and green purchasing information for the university. Another sustainability report will be released in August, 2012 and will include sustainability plans and opportunities for the future at HPU.

A brief description of the plan’s measurable goals :

The HPU sustainability reports includes current energy use and waste disposal information for a 12-month period. The report also includes measurable goals including "Lower disposal costs by performing waste audits across the Hawai’i Loa and downtown campuses to decrease amount of recycled materials thrown away," and "reduce energy use and energy costs." By tracking pervious and future energy and waste information, we can measure the success of these goals.

A brief description of how progress in meeting the plan’s goals is measured:

We have been meeting the goal of reducing energy use across campus. HPU recently installed a state of the art cooling system for our largest university-owned building, which has led to at least a 20% reduction in energy use. KwH's and the cost of HPU's energy bills has decreased since this last sustainability report was released. Waste has gone down due to the implementation of a food composting program for HPU's cafeteria, and the addition of cardboard recycling at HPU's cafeteria. New waste disposal costs have not yet been compared to the 12-month disposal cost records in last years sustainability report.
