A brief description of the institution’s formal participatory or shared governance bodies:
Windward Community College participates in shared governance through its Faculty Senate, Staff Senate, and Student government.
The Associated Students of the University of Hawai‘i (ASUH) at Windward Community College is a student government organization that represents all students, including full-time, part-time, early college, and distance education (online).
The Staff Senate is the official representative body for staff members at the College. It functions in an advisory capacity to the WCC Chancellor and administration with the express goal of promoting the general welfare of the College through advocacy and inclusion of staff perspectives.
The Faculty Senate is a representative body of members elected by the faculty of the various academic departments and units of WCC. The Faculty Senate supports faculty governance and believes that shared governance is essential to creating a productive and rewarding academic environment for faculty and students as well as protecting faculty to pursue independent, scholarly research. As per the University of Hawaii, Board of Regents’ Bylaws the Faculty Senate is the governing agency for dealing with matters of interest to more than one college and acts as the official voice of the faculty of WCC. The Faculty Senate also advises and consults with student, staff, and administrative groups on matters of general concern which include, but are not necessarily limited to, the budget, institutional planning, library and computer operations, student academic conduct in the classroom, and the selection of academic-administrative personnel.
