WCC has the sustainability curriculum committee (SCC). The SCC meets once a month to discuss expanding WCC courses to include more sustainability designated courses. The committee has a representative from each academic department.
The SCC also takes measures to ensure that students can apply for the sustainability academic certificate. This includes responsibilities related to outreach and faculty education.

WCC Faculty member Christian Palmer has worked with Windward Community College Faculty, staff, and students to advance sustainability efforts operationally and academically. Christian Palmer is listed as the sustainability contact for the WCC campus and supervises a UHOS Americorps Sustainability and Resilience Vista.
In 2017 Christian Palmer worked with the WCC Student Sustainability Hui, the student club, to add recycling receptacles to every single trash bin on the campus. He also worked with students and staff to engage in an outreach campaign to reduce paper towel usage.
Christian is also the chair of the sustainability curriculum committee (SCC). The SCC recruits and approves courses to be sustainability designated. The S-designated courses can be applied to a Sustainability Academic Certificate, a certificate program that Christian also organizes.
Christian wrote the application for WCC to be designated as a Green Business under the Hawaii State Green Business Program. The application was approved in 2018 and now the institution is a registered green business.
Christian also wrote the Windward Community College Campus Sustainability Plan in 2018. The purpose pf the plan is to clearly establish the pathway to making Windward Community College more sustainable through data-based performance measures in each of the five areas outlined by the UH system-wide sustainability plan.
Christian Palmer also wrote the WCC Landscaping Plan in 2019. This plan seeks to create a campus landscape that supports the diverse teaching and research programs in biology, botany, Hawaiian studies, sustainable agriculture, lāʻau lapaʻau, wood carving, art, health care, agripharmatech, culinary arts, and other programs. In addition, the campus environment can provide public education to school and community groups that use the campus space.

The UH (System) Office of Sustainability is responsible for broad sustainability coordination for the entire 10-campus university system.
The UH (System) Office of Sustainability functions as a backbone organization, working with across UH campuses to complement, support and enhance the existing sustainability work under way, and to provide coordination capacity for campuses to share information and resources with each other to accelerate action to strengthen the environmental, social, cultural and economic health of our islands’ communities.
The Sustainability Curriculum Coordination Council (SSCCC) was established by EP 4.202 to provide coordination, support and advice to the campuses regarding scholarly, scientific and community-engaged research projects in sustainability; integrating sustainability into existing courses across the curriculum; developing new sustainability courses, programs, certificates and degrees; and supporting and assisting current sustainability degree programs to evolve, excel and flourish. The SSCCC reports directly to the Vice President for Academic Affairs, however lacks any full-time staff or credit release time to support its function.
