Does the institution have an ongoing program to encourage students in multiple disciplines or academic programs to conduct sustainability research?:
Yes

A brief description of the student sustainability research program:

Syracuse University is harnessing the power of interdisciplinary partnerships to tackle some of society’s biggest challenges.

The Campus as Lab for Sustainability program offers grants to students for research projects and each project must be a collaboration with another college or program.

A current project Syracuse Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee (DEI) and the School of Architecture implemented a reuse, reduce, and recycle practice within the Architecture studios. Bins were assigned to collect paper, cardboard, and chipboard to be recycled, while shelves have been implemented for reusable materials. The goal was for the whole community to be impacted as much as it could be to help. To do the above, measures were implemented school-wide to studios from all years. Furthermore, the project was also assigned a storage space within Slocum Hall to store supplies graduating seniors no longer utilize nor take home, for first year students, the rest of the school, and students from other schools and other majors can now go and get reused supplies instead of constantly buying new ones.

To promote research in sustainable enterprise, the SEP annually awards a grant of up to $20,000, which may be used for stipends, research assistants, materials, travel, and other expenses.

The SEP gratefully acknowledges the cooperation of the U.S. Green Building Council in the research grant program and the generous gift of financial support from United Technologies Corporation.
