The Center for Sustainability and Division of Mission and Ministry are embarking on a year-long strategic planning process to develop a sustainability action plan that takes us through 2030, rooted in Laudato Si’. This initiative brings stakeholders from across campus together to define shared goals, draft a strategy for meeting them, and implement them over time. There are five Working Groups, each focused on a different area of the Sustainability Action Plan. Working Group members develop the ideas and strategies behind the new Sustainability Action Plan.

A brief description of each sustainability office:

The Center for Sustainability advances academic and public understanding of the ways in which social justice and sustainability intersect by integrating principles of social, environmental, and economic sustainability into campus operations, academic and student life, and outreach programs. The Center for Sustainability aims to help the University achieve Climate Neutrality; practice mindful consumption; develop a culture of sustainability among students, faculty, staff, alumni, and visitors; and use the campus as a living laboratory for developing global solutions.

A brief description of the activities and substantive accomplishments of the institution-wide coordinating body or officer during the previous three years:

The Center for Sustainability is home to numerous ongoing programs that promote sustainability on campus. In 2021-22, attendance at the Center’s events was a total of 2826 individuals. The Center also collaborates with operations and academic departments to spearhead sustainability initiatives and raise students' awareness. The Center is currently working with over 80 campus and community representatives to create SCU’s Sustainability Action Plan.
