A brief description of the institution’s main campus and other aspects of the institutional boundary used to complete this report:

The university has chosen to report on all buildings that are owned or leased and in operational control of the University. In addition, all satellite campuses located in Massachusetts are included in the submission because the University owns and operates the campuses. Satellite campuses included are located in Burlington, MA and Nahant, MA. The Global Campus Network is excluded from this submission as buildings are leased, not owned.
The University acquired Mills College, located in Oakland, CA, on July 1, 2022. Due to the recent acquisition, the 135 acre campus has been excluded from this STARS report but already has a current STARS report that is valid through May 17, 2024.

Which of the following features are present on campus and which are included within the institutional boundary?:
Present? Included?
Agricultural school No No
Medical school No No
Other professional school with labs or clinics (e.g. dental, nursing, pharmacy, public health, veterinary) Yes Yes
Museum No No
Satellite campus Yes Yes
Farm larger than 2 hectares or 5 acres No No
Agricultural experiment station larger than 2 hectares or 5 acres No No
Hospital No No

The rationale for excluding any features that are present from the institutional boundary:

The University is excluding leased space in which we are not responsible for utility payment. These include leased spaces in Boston, MA; Arlington, VA; Charlotte, NC; Portland, ME; San Jose, CA; San Francisco, CA; Seattle, WA, Toronto, Canada; Vancouver, Canada; and London and represent an additional 13% in building square footage. Additionally, the Oakland campus is also excluded from this submission due to its recent acquisition on July 1, 2022. One private residence in Boston is also excluded.
The University is intending to include these spaces in future submissions as data collection and facilities integration improves.
