A brief description of the institution's green laboratory program:

Northeastern University works in collaboration with GreenLabs Recycling, a recycling service based out of Concord, Massachusetts. GreenLabs collects and recycles plastic items from lab science industries that are not accepted within large-scale recycling sorting facilities, with a focus on keeping the recycling process local and cost-effective. The program is currently collecting and recycling animal cages, pipette tip boxes, and other lab plastics.

Using the Beyond Benign Green Chemistry Commitment as a guide, faculty train students on sustainable lab practices and work to implement solvent replacement to minimize waste and chemical exposure. Northeastern regularly engages students in green chemistry foundations within the Chemistry and BioChemistry Programs, which supports the university's steps to reduce the chemical waste it produces in its teaching and research operations.
