Do it in the Dark Campaign

A brief description of the campaign:

Northeastern's Huskey Environmental Action Team (HEAT) student group hosts the "Do it in the Dark" energy efficiency campaign each Fall. This month-long event is an energy saving competition between dorms aimed at teaching and inspiring Northeastern students to save energy and protect the environment. The event is usually launched with a barbeque providing information and inspiration to engage students in the campaign.

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign:

During the month of October, the Energy Team measures the energy use in each participating dorm and the dorm with the greatest reduction by the end of the month wins the competition and a prize.

Green Office Challenge

A brief description of the campaign (2nd campaign):

The Green Office Challenge program engaged employees in taking individual actions to improve the overall sustainability of their workstations. Actions ranged from simple changes such as recycling and turning off the lights to serving as an EcoAmbassador (individuals who performed outreach within their departments on the Green Office Program). Since returning to work following covid, the Climate Justice and Sustainability Hub is working to revamp and reimagine this Challenge and other sustainability engagement opportunities.


A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign (2nd campaign):

The Green Office Challenge had over 600 participants who took actions in the following categories resulting in positive sustainability impacts:
Energy - Reduce energy use
Waste & Pollution Minimization - Reduce waste
Recycling - Increase recycling and reduce contamination
Transportation - Reduce emissions from driving alone
Purchasing - Increase sustainable purchasing
Volunteer - Increase community volunteering
Innovations


A brief description of other sustainability-related outreach campaigns:

The Climate Justice and Sustainability Hub is hosting a student competition to design an original art piece that visualizes one of the themes of climate justice action. The winners of this competition will receive a cash prize, along with seeing their artwork added to the walls of the tunnel system under the Boston campus.
