A brief description of how sustainability is included in new employee orientation:

As of April 2020, due to Covid-19, New Employee Orientation has shifted to being completely remote. At the same time, there was a change to making all HR resources available online, thus eliminating the use of paper in the onboarding process. This eliminates 50,000 pieces of paper annually, reducing energy consumption and waste from related printing activities.

New hires are also introduced to the University’s values around sustainability. Employees are encouraged to use alternative transportation and informed of the commuter benefits including pre-tax commuter passes. Links to the Climate Justice & Sustainability Hub help reinforce the university's commitment to sustainability.

A presentation from the Office of Institutional Diversity and Inclusion is also included in the New Hire Orientation to promote the importance of this office and their work at the University. The Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion promotes the University’s commitment to equal opportunity, affirmative action, diversity, and social justice while building a climate of inclusion on and beyond campus.
