The UW Accident Prevention Plan (APP) furthers the University’s commitment to provide a safe and healthful environment for all employees. It is consistent with requirements in the Washington State Industrial Safety and Health Act (WISHA) (Washington Administrative Code 296-24, 296-62, and 296-800), which is administered by the Department of Labor and Industries (L&I), Division of Occupational Safety and Health.

A brief description of the methodology used to track and calculate the number of recordable incidents of work-related injury or ill health :

Anyone with a UW NetID can access the Online Accident Reporting System (OARS). Incident reports entered into the Online Accident Reporting System (OARS) are screened by EH&S. The OARS reports are also sent to their assigned Organizational Health and Safety Committee each month. The committee members review reports and assist with additional follow-up if needed. Personally identifiable information is omitted from each OARS report before it is sent to the committee for review.
A summary of the UW's Log of Work-Related Injuries and Illnesses, sorted by location, is called the OSHA 300A Summary and is available for all employees to review. The OSHA 300A Summary for the previous year is required to be posted from February 1st to April 30th in common work areas and safety bulletin boards on campus.
