A brief description of how the student educators are selected (1st program):

Eco Reps are selected through an application process, with the standard number selected being 14 and typically one or two representing each building of the residence hall system.


A brief description of the formal training that the student educators receive (1st program):

Eco Reps are taken through a curriculum that covers culture shifting, event planning, basic tenets of sustainability, recycling, utilities usage, and emerging issues in sustainability. Eco Reps are taught how to guide resident students into sustainable lifestyles by integrating environmental stewardship into residence culture through education, outreach, and practice.


A brief description of the staff and/or other financial support the institution provides to the program (1st program):

One part-time staff member advises the Eco Reps, and the budget for the program is flexible, with the average annual expenditure being approximately $1000. Information on what it means to be sustainable as well as tips on recycling and reducing are provided to Eco Reps in each of the dorms through posters and programs. Students who engage in "going green" receive several sustainable goodies that serve as reminders for what they can do in the world.
