A brief description of how multiple stakeholder groups were involved in developing the plan:

Comprised of faculty, students, and staff appointed by the university President, the Sustainability Council outlined 28 initiatives in UNT's Green Paper #1.


A brief description of the plan’s measurable goals :

The Green Paper #1 reviews achievements and sets goals in the form of the Sustainability Council's 28 recommendations. These involve 1) curriculum, 2) research, 3) communication, and 4) administration and operations in an attempt to continue to build campus infrastructure and develop programs by engaging students, faculty, and staff in a transformative movement to become a more sustainable community of higher learning. Each of the recommendations are categorized by 1) immediate actions, 2) curricular and educational initiatives, 3) research initiatives, 4) communication initiatives, 5) operational initiatives, and 6) administrative and financial initiatives.

A few of the plans many goals are: completing an emissions inventory, developing a climate action plan to reduce emissions, and promoting economic, environmental, and societal sustainability in the university curriculum.


A brief description of how progress in meeting the plan’s goals is measured:

The Office of Sustainability is tasked with ensuring that UNT meets the goals outlined in the Green Paper #1. The Office determines performance measures and benchmarks for UNT's sustainability goals for curriculum, research, communication, and administration and operations. Benchmarks are also included in the Climate Action Plan.

In addition, the university has integrated concepts of sustainability in both its Strategic Plan and Master Plan.
