A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:

The Recycling at Tailgating initiative at UNT is a volunteer-based recycling program for the Mean Green Tailgating events at all home football games. The fall 2011 season will be the third annual season for the program. Volunteers spread awareness to tailgaters about the importance of recycling during their tailgating celebrations, while also distributing bags and collecting those items which can be recycled.

UNT Recycling at Tailgating facilitates collaboration and partnership between administrative units at the university, as both UNT Facilities and Student Affairs assist the Office of Sustainability in Recycling at Tailgating, organizing volunteers and supplying necessary resources such as recycling receptacles. It is an effective way to get the UNT community involved and interested in recycling, and it is also an invaluable outreach tool to educate students on sustainability, demonstrating how easy it is to recycle as well as how much of their waste is recyclable.
