While Gustavus does not currently have any official peer-to-peer sustainability education and outreach programs for employees, we hope to bolster these types of programs within the next three years. Currently the only employee focused program related to sustainability is a program titled “Building Champions”.

The purpose of this program is to educate academic employees about various sustainability initiatives present within their department. Each academic building will have a designated “Building Champion” that is a trained employee educator who will help to assist in all sustainability initiatives in their building. Specifically, they will assist with any zero-waste questions that employees may have, help with the TREX plastic recycling program, and help to share outreach materials to academic staff.

In the future we hope to make this program official by conducting employee trainings and to gain support from the President’s Environmental Sustainability Council (PESC). The added support will allow for the expansion of “Building Champions” and to increase the knowledge of sustainability among academic staff.
