No

Name of the campaign:
Inter-hall Waste Sorting Challenge

A brief description of the campaign:

The Inter-hall Waste Sorting Challenge is a program in which sustainability interns assess how contaminated the trash, recycling, and compost is at each residential dorm. The waste streams for each dorm is assessed before and after an online educational campaign held for this event. Data for the campaign was collected every Monday over a three week period at each dorm. This campaign was directed at students.

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign:

From this campaign, there were some residential dorms that saw dramatic improvements in contamination rates in recycling and compost. There were no other major events or changes that would have influenced the recycling or composting rate during this span of time. Additionally, determining the contamination rates for all residential buildings helped us to determine where additional resources are needed in order to improve. Results from this first campaign can be used in the future to track contamination rates over multiple years.

Name of the campaign (2nd campaign):
Gustavus Groundswell Day

A brief description of the campaign (2nd campaign):

This campaign was a climate action initiative that was an all-day, campus-wide event that showcased the commitment of Gustavus students to climate action by the Gustavus President. This event included multiple activities including: a climate justice march, phone banking, and the creation of a sustainability pledge mural. This event also contributed to the promotion and prioritization of climate initiatives at Gustavus. This campaign was directed at students.

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign (2nd campaign):

After seeing a large number of students in support of the campaign, the Gustavus administration responded by making formal commitments to further climate action. These commitments included: a push towards being a zero-waste, a 25% reduction in energy consumption, and to include sustainability initiatives in our campus wide strategic action plan.
