Only college in MN to hold Forest Stewardship Council Chain-Of-Custody Certification

A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:

Gustavus Adolphus College Print and Mail Services is the only college printing service in Minnesota to hold current Forest Stewardship Council Chain-of-Custody Certification. Gustavus is listed in the database of valid FSC certifications (license code: FSC-C110794) as well as on this published list of FSC certified printers: https://us.fsc.org/preview.fsc-certified-printers.a-560.pdf

About the Forest Stewardship Council Chain-of-Custody Certification: Between the forest and the final user, paper products undergo many stages of processing, manufacturing and distribution. FSC Chain-of-Custody certification traces the path of products from forests through the supply chain, verifying that FSC-certified material is identified or kept separated from non-certified material throughout the chain. FSC certification ensures that products come from responsibly managed forests that provide environmental, social and economic benefits. The Chain-of-Custody process ensures the consumer that the FSC-certified products they purchase are coming from responsibly managed sources. For a consumer to purchase an FSC-certified product, every company that previously had ownership of the forest product material components of the end product would have had to be FSC certified.

FSC Chain-of-Custody Certification differs from purchasing 90-100 percent post-consumer recycled and/or agricultural residue content or FSC Recycled/100% label office paper, specified in OP-14: Office Paper Purchasing, since a college can purchase 90-100% recycled paper but not be FSC Chain-of-Custody certified. Gustavus is required to report percentages of 90-100% recycled paper purchased and fall within specified criteria in order to maintain FSC Chain-of-Custody certification.
