As part of the 2008-2009 Academic Quality Improvement Program, the College established a Diversity Committee to develop a comprehensive plan for continuously improving the process of valuing diversity in the college. The committee studied strategies to develop measurable goals and objectives that demonstrate the college’s commitment to valuing, respecting, and learning about diverse people and perspectives.

The Board of Trustees approved the creation of the Diversity Commission during the October 26, 2010 board meeting. The Diversity Commission will function within the college’s current governance structure and it will include four subcommittees with responsibilities related to instructional and faculty development; services for students and retention; multicultural events, communication and outreach; and human resources and staff professional development.

This commission was newly formed in 2010 and membership is still being solicited. The commission is organized by Vice President for Student Development, Darl Drummond.
