Name or title of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
Free Menstrual Hygiene Products

A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:

According to the Stanford Work Life Office, the university made the decision in 2020 to provide menstrual hygiene products free of charge in women’s and all-gender restrooms. This decision was made in partnership with Provost Persis Drell, senior leadership and University Human Resources and highlights the importance of menstrual equity and equal access to hygiene products. With the elimination of the taxation on menstrual hygiene products across 23 states, including California, sanitary pads and tampons are starting to be viewed as a necessity rather than a luxury. To support this initiative, there are more than 750 building restrooms, shower rooms, and locker rooms that have had menstrual hygiene product dispensers converted to be free.
