Yes

A brief description of the sustainability-focused immersive program(s) offered by the institution:

Stanford offers numerous sustainability-focused immersive experiences:

(1) Students may elect to spend an academic quarter at Hopkins Marine Station and aboard the R/V Robert C. Seamans as a part of the Stanford@SEA course. Here the coursework focuses on marine ecosystems and ocean sustainability. Course offerings have included “Introduction to Oceanography,” “Problems in Oceanography II,” and “Marine Conservation.” See more details here: http://stanford.sea.edu/

(2) Stanford in Washington is a quarter-long program in which students live and work in the nation’s capital. Time is split between policy courses and an immersive policy internship. Popular internships through the program include the Department of Energy, Freedom House, and The Natural Resources Defense Council. One of the focuses of the Stanford in Washington program is sustainability-related policy. Courses offered include “Civil Rights Law” and “Health Policy for Women and Children.” See more details here: https://siw.stanford.edu/

(3) The Wrigley Field Program is an interdisciplinary program that investigates the Earth sciences, life sciences, and Hawaiian culture to address environmental issues that arise from the interaction between man and nature. The program is designed for students interested in Earth systems, biology, geological and environmental sciences, and cultural anthropology. Led by Stanford faculty with extensive research and teaching experience in Hawaii, students spend a full quarter working, studying, and living on the islands of Hawaii, Oahu, and Kauai. See more details here: https://earth.stanford.edu/programs/hawaii/

(4) Stanford’s program in Australian Coastal Studies offers a unique opportunity to learn about Australian culture while studying the enormous diversity of coral reefs and rainforests. This program is ideal for students interested in environmental and ecological science and policy. In collaboration with the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Queensland, Overseas Studies enrolls students in a prearranged set of courses in marine biology and ecology of the Great Barrier Reef and the coastal rainforest, as well as an introduction to Australian Studies. This program is mobile. During the quarter, faculty members will lead students from Cairns into the rainforests of Far North Queensland, to research stations on the Great Barrier Reef, to Sydney, and around Brisbane.
