Does the institution have a program to reduce residence hall move-in waste?:
Yes
None
A brief description of the program:
During move-in we encourage residents to recycle all move-in waste, as they would for all material throughout the year. Each floor of our residence buildings has several clearly marked bins for our recycling/waste streams: 1) paper, 2) cans/bottles/plastic, and 3) waste. Signage is located throughout the residence, each colour coordinated with each stream. Resident Assistants share information about how to recycle to their respective floors. There is also a used clothing drop-off bin outside our North Campus residence building making clothing donation very easy for students all year long.
Resident Assistants help direct students on how to dispose of cardboard boxes, plastic wrap, etc. which is the majority of the waste produced during move in. Residence has its own recycling bins for paper, cardboard, cans/bottles/plastic, and waste.
Students are also sent welcome information prior to move in that includes how to recycle in residence and on campus.
