A brief description of the institution’s sustainability partnerships with the local community:

The Humber Arboretum is a joint venture of Humber College, the City of Toronto and the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA).
• The Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (www.trca.on.ca ) assists with the maintenance of the Arboretum. The TRCA and Humber Arboretum Center for Urban Ecology has platinum status from the Ontario EcoCentres certification program www.ontarioecocentres.org ; www.humber.ca/news/humber-arboretum-becomes-first-platinum-ecocentre-ontario
• City of Toronto assists with the Humber Arboretum trail maintenance.

The Humber Arboretum also has ongoing partnerships with the following community groups:
• Microskills Youth & Children Services (www.microskills.ca/youth-children-services ): Humber provides urban youth with eco-challenge and after school programs where youth take part in activities such as removing invasive species around the grounds.
• Ernstine Women’s Shelter (www.ernestines.ca ): Humber helps fundraise and applies for funding to bring kids to the Arboretum’s summer camp and after school programs.
• The Etobicoke Children’s Center (www.etobicokechildren.com )
• Etobicoke Master Gardeners (www.etobicoke.mgoi.ca ): Humber promotes horticultural techniques and best practices by conducting tours of the Arboretum grounds for this group. They identify native species and connect people with the plants found in the Arboretum gardens. In return, the Etobicoke Master Gardeners promote the Arboretum to their members.
• Humberwood Community Centre (www.humberwood.ca/default.aspx ): Humber Arboretum oversees the grounds of the community center, including pond naturalization. Humber Arboretum also works with the public and catholic schools that run out of this community center to conduct yearly outdoor clean ups and re-vitalize the wetlands with students.
