A brief description of the sustainability-focused immersive experience(s) offered by the institution:
Mary Lendway, a professor in Tourism Management program, organizes a yearly student service trip. The Study @ Sea program is an experiential learning opportunity in partnership with the Institute for Shipboard Education and Semester at Sea. Students travel aboard the MV Explorer, a floating campus and state of the art vessel. The program’s mission is:
"To educate individuals with the global understanding necessary to address the challenges of our interdependent world. With the world as our classroom, our unique shipboard program integrates multiple-country study, interdisciplinary coursework, and hands-on field experiences for meaningful engagement in the global community."
Participants are encouraged to create a culture of sustainability – onboard, at the multiple ports visited during the trip and once back at home.
