Name of the campaign:
Energy Wars

A brief description of the campaign:

Energy Wars is a competition between living units and Greek Houses at DePauw University to reduce resource consumption. The goals of the competition are to increase resource awareness, reduce DePauw’s carbon and resource footprint, bring awareness about climate justice, encourage creativity in resource-saving solutions, and build community sustainability. This challenge has taken place in many different forms in DePauw's History, but most recently was brought back by the Sustainability Leadership Program's Climate Justice Group in Fall 2019.

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign:

In partnership with Facilities Management, students have been trained to measure the electricity and water meter levels before and after the competition begins. Students met with the presidents of all greek houses, Resident Assistants, and other housing officials to explain the purposes of the campaign and to encourage participation. The students developed a marketing campaign to engage residents and have advertised Green Living practices for over a month in various forms.

The actual week of recording the 2020 Energy Wars data will take place just before Earth Week, but past Energy Wars have resulted in water and energy savings in each of the locations that participated in Energy Wars (varying from 9-24% reduction in energy and 2-21% reduction in water usage).

Attached is the 2020 guide to energy wars developed by students in fall 2019.

Name of the campaign (2nd campaign):
Green-to-Go

A brief description of the campaign (2nd campaign):

Reusable to-go boxes are a student-driven initiative supported by the Sustainability Leadership Program and DePauw Student Government. This revised system is the only to-go dining option at Hoover Hall and is free to participate in.

HOW DOES GREEN-TO-GO WORK?
The new system is a simple, four step process.

1. Exchange your carabiner for a to-go box at Hoover Hall.
2. Return the box for your carabiner at any Bon Appetit location or exchange the box at Hoover Hall for a clean to-go box.
3. Repeat! Only one box may be checked out at a time.
4. If you have lost your carabiner or green box but would like to continue participating in the to-go program, a new carabiner can be purchased at the register for $4.
