University-Wide SUSTAINABILITY COMMITTEE
Function. The Sustainability Committee coordinates curricular, co-curricular, operational, and administrative sustainability initiatives; reviews and assesses the University’s progress toward sustainability objectives as defined by the University and Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE); facilitates the collection of data and other information required for AASHE’s Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System or other appropriate assessment tools; and supports efforts to inform the campus and general public about the University’s leadership in campus sustainability and environmental citizenship.

The committee meets every other week throughout the academic year.

Membership.
Faculty membership: Three (3) appointed representatives.

Administrative members:
Voting: Director of Sustainability. (Malorie Garbe), Associate Vice President for Facilities Management or representative (Chris Hoffa).
Ex-officio (without vote): Faculty Sustainability Director (Jeane Pope), Vice President for Academic Affairs or representative (James Wells), and Vice President for Student Academic Life (Sarah Ryan) or representative.

Student members: Two (2) appointed by Student Congress.

The Office for Sustainability was created in 2010 and currently oversees DePauw's 80+student Sustainability Leadership Program and The Ullem Campus Farm and Center for Sustainability.

Our campus-wide Sustainability Committee and Office of Sustainability coordinate with a broad group of stakeholders, including Faculty Departments, Dining Services, Facilities Management, Housing, Student Academic Life, and more.

Activities and Accomplishments since 2018

UNIVERSITY-WIDE SUSTAINABILITY COMMITTEE
In May 2019, the University Sustainability Committee held a Sustainability Summit to answer the question: "What is sustainability? Exploring Vision(s) for Sustainability Work at DePauw". The summit was open to the entire campus community for feedback and exploration into challenges and opportunities for sustainability on campus.

In February 2020, the Committee hosted a Faculty Roundtable discussion to introduce faculty to sustainability-related opportunities for teaching and collaborative research.

All semester, the committee has been gathering data to submit this STARS report.

THE OFFICE OF SUSTAINABILITY
The Director and Assistant Director of Sustainability continue to oversee the thriving, 80-student Sustainability Leadership Program on DePauw's campus. The office coordinates external communications related to sustainability, implements initiatives related to composting and recycling, educates incoming students, faculty, and staff about current sustainability programs, and more.
