A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome :
In the past year, the college has implemented a styrafoam recycling program on campus. Due to a student project in ES312, we were able to get one styoafoam recycling container near the library, and another one next to the science center to reduce this amount of packaging waste from items such as computers, printer, and other technology. So far, we have collected over 700 pounds of styrofoam in this year alone. This is a huge amount, considering that styrofoam is so voluminous but not dense at all. We are now sending the styrofoam to our recycling contractor who condenses it and resells it back to manufacturers. Styrofoam recycling is extremely rare, especially at an institutional level. We are one of the only college's in the country to have this program, making it extremely cutting edge and innovative.
