100

A brief description of the institution’s methodology for evaluating employee satisfaction and engagement:

Western University worked in collaboration with Metrics@Work to conduct the We Speak survey in Jan-Feb 2020, which measures work engagement, division/faculty engagement and organizational engagement. The same survey was first applied in 2012, establishing a baseline for comparison over the years. The We Speak survey allows Western to understand which drivers of engagement are effective, which ones are lacking, and to determine if actions taken to improve those drivers had the desired effect.

A brief description of the mechanism(s) by which the institution addresses issues raised by the evaluation:

Western publishes Western-wide results online reflecting organizational engagement levels. In addition to accessing the Western-wide results, Deans and Associate Vice-Presidents receive detailed results for their own Faculty/Department. Leaders meet with the President of Metrics@Work, the company that conducted the survey, to fully review and understand the results. Following this, local results are shared with members of faculties and departments. Leaders at all levels determine next steps, so that faculty and staff can be engaged at a local level through We Act, a series of commitments and actions that each unit will take to ensure that any gaps in performance are being addressed.
