A brief description of the method(s) used to gather data about student commuting:
A survey was sent to all students and staff in 2020, where one question asked about their most common modes of transit to the school. The survey was completed by 3416 respondents. 72.6% of respondents indicated they most commonly use active transportation, public transit, or carpooling to get to campus. This question did not distinguish between the actions of students and staff, and in future years separate surveys will be sent to each group; we believe that the percentage for students is likely much higher, and lower for staff. The survey informs our percentages for each of the alternative transport options. Additionally, Parking and Visitor Services has provided data on the number of parking permits for both staff and students, which is the source for the single occupancy vehicle percentages.
