The Director for Multicultural Engagement will assess issues related to cultural diversity in the spirit of transforming Transylvania University into a model for liberal arts education in an era of globalization. It is the responsibility of the Director to assure campus wide compliance with federal regulations of international students in F-1 status while assisting the international students in adapting to American culture and campus life, collaborate with colleagues to create programing to assist the internationalization of our campus community, and direct the international student to the appropriate resources for both academic and personal needs. The Director will maintain and demonstrate an unwavering commitment to creating an environment of respect of difference, collaborating with members of student organizations and their leaders to support and advise diversity-related programming. Additionally, the Director will engage in community outreach with local organizations, public schools and other higher education to create symbiotic relationships that will create and nurture an atmosphere of diversity and inclusion. Working with admissions, the Director will provide support for recruitment initiatives to increase diversity enrollment (i.e. Trailblazer Weekend). The Director will also work closely with a faculty liaison for diversity to infuse diversity related topics and issues into the curriculum that will be supported by co-curricular projects. The Director will work with the communications department to develop a website for diversity and a marketing message for the community.

The Diversity and Inclusion Office organizes cultural events in partnership with the local community and other offices on campus. Several of our speaker series incorporate experts on diversity-related issues. These activities are open to all staff, as well as faculty and students. Training on micro-aggressions, diversity training for staff, etc
