AGRI 1030 - Introduction to Plant Science
This course is designed to emphasize the economic importance of plants and their relationship to agriculture and society. Topics include plant structure, physiology, heredity, factors of the environment in relation to growth, adaptation, management of plants, and utilization of plant products.

AGRI 1050 - Introduction to Soil Science
This course will engage students in understanding soil management relative to fertility, plant nutrition, tillage, erosion and environmental conditions as the origins of soils and soil properties are examined. The physical, chemical, and biological processes of soil will be introduced to in addition to the relation of soil and land use management.

BIOL 3120 - General Ecology
The relationship between plants and animals and their environment.

PHIL 2640 - Science in the Modern World
A study of the nature of science and the relationship between science and other areas of modern life including religion, ethics, and politics.

AGRI 1020 - Introduction to Animal Science
Fundamental principles of animal agriculture; biological and scientific aspects of development, inheritance, feeding and nutrition; management, animal products, and scope of the industry.

PHIL 1040 - Introduction to Ethics
Ethics is tentatively defined as the rational justification of our moral rules. These definitions will be refined as the course progresses. This course is a critical analysis of the principal ethical theories and their applications to contemporary moral issues.

BIOL 1430 - Nutrition
A study of nutrients and their relationship to human growth, development and maintenance. Special emphasis is given to the role of foods and the nutrients they contain, with regard to the physiological, psychological, and sociological well-being of the individual. Practical analysis of food records and application of nutritional knowledge will be included.

HLSC 2100 - Wellness Concepts and Practices
This course emphasizes preventive health practices which promote healthful lifestyles and reduce risk factors associated with disease while stressing individual responsibility for achieving optimal well-being.

SOCI 1040 - Social Problems
This course is an introduction students to increasingly acute and intense problems such as alcoholism, violence, drugs, crime, inequality, lifestyle preferences and environmental abuse within the context of social change. Course includes assessment of control strategies.

BIOL 1510 - Environmental Science I
Study of environmental problems at global, national, and local levels. Ecological principles, geophysical processes, and human population dynamics; scientific approach applied to understanding environmental concepts using hands-on field experiences.

BIOL 1520 - Environmental Science II
Study of environmental problems at global, national, and local levels. Ecological principles, geophysical processes, and human population dynamics; scientific approach applied to understanding environmental concepts using hands-on field experiences.

BIOL 1020 - Diversity of Life
This course introduces the student to the diversity of life on Earth. The course begins by introducing the ecological concepts that govern living organisms. This is followed by examining the diversity of organisms that serve as producers, consumers and decomposers in the environment. The final portion of the course explores the organization and systems of the human body.

AGRI 1010 - Introduction to Agribusiness
This course is an introduction to the field of agricultural business and some of the basic tools and concepts of decision making. Concepts are illustrated in terms of selected current social and economic issues in the industry of production agriculture, agricultural business, and the computer application of those concepts.

TN Tech's Extended Programs and Regional Development Department partners with several online course facilitators to provide students a variety of online programs and certificate programs for personal enrichment and professional development.

ACS Certification
A student in any chemistry concentration may attain certification by the American Chemical Society as determined by the Chemistry faculty. The Chemistry Department defines specific areas of certification including, but not restricted to, pure chemistry, biochemistry and environmental chemistry. The requirements for certification in these areas are outside the curricular requirements of the three major concentrations.

Pesticide Safety Certification - AGRN 3010
In this course, students will receive training in the proper use of pesticides to protect public health and the environment. It is an 8 week course where students can test for the TN Private Pesticide Applicator Certification.
