2021 Governor's Environmental Stewardship Award - Building Green

A brief description of the institution’s featured program, initiative, or accomplishment:

Gov. Bill Lee and the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation have named Tennessee Tech University as a winner in the 2021 Governor’s Environmental Stewardship Awards. The award to Tennessee Tech is in the Building Green
category.
Tech was recognized for a number of on-campus projects, among them the new Lab
Sciences Building, the largest academic building on campus which is also Tech’s first LEEDS certified facility. Renovations were completed at each of Tech’s 14 residence halls. An upgrade in the water filtration system at the swimming pool in the Marc L. Burnett Student Recreation & Fitness Center is estimated to save more than $10,000 and up to a million gallons of water annually.

U.S Department of Energy awards Tennessee Tech $4 million for green economy proposal

A brief description of the third program/initiative/accomplishment:

Tennessee Tech has been awarded more than $4 million by the U.S. Department of Energy for its proposal to build the clean energy economy in rural areas.
The project title is “Rural Reimagined:  Building an EV Ecosystem and Green Economy for Transforming Lives in Economically Distressed Appalachia.”  Rural Reimagined is Tennessee Tech’s Grand Challenge initiative to harness science, technology and innovation to transform rural communities.
