The FY 2011-2012 baseline for workforce health and safety reporting was chosen because that is the first year the program was begun and records maintained.

A brief description of the institution’s workplace health and safety initiatives, including how workers are engaged in monitoring and advising on health and safety programs:

The President’s Cabinet approved a Campus Health & Safety Policy on June 13, 2011. The policy authorizes the promotion, development and maintenance of programs to prevent safety hazards and promote environmental health on our campus. These programs include, but are not limited to Accident & Illness Prevention, Accident Reporting & Investigation, and Right-To Know (Hazard Communication).

SRU has established a University Safety Committee comprised of faculty and staff, and a complementary but independent AFSCME Safety Committee comprised of labor and management. These Committees meet twice during both Fall and Spring semesters to review accident reports, discuss issues of safety and risk, and make recommendations on these matters might be effectively addressed.

The Department of Environmental Health and Safety has been assigned responsibility for maintaining compliance with applicable federal, state and local legislation pertaining to health and safety in the workplace. Program management includes but is not limited to occupational safety and health in general, fire safety and prevention, emergency management, risk reduction, campus recycling, accident reporting and workers’ compensation administration. EHS facilitates applicable training on established programs.
