A brief description of any internal sustainability professional development and training opportunities that the institution makes available to staff:

A one-hour internal workshop, formally recognized as a professional development program by the University, focuses on sustainability topics (climate change challenges, solutions, and updates on the university's climate action plan progress)and is offered to all staff and taught by SRU's Director of Sustainability through our Human Resources Department's professional development program. In 2019, a Parks and Conservation faculty member will co-present on this workshop.

Additional hands-on workshops on more narrowly defined topics (such as the basics of composting, making soap with organic materials, etc.) are offered free to staff at Macoskey Center for Sustainable Systems Education and Research.


A brief description of any external professional development and training opportunities in sustainability that are supported by the institution(e.g. through payment, reimbursement, or subsidy):

Staff are eligible to submit for an SRU Green Fund Grant to attend sustainability focused conferences and workshops. Individual departments also provide reimbursement for staff to attend external training (e.g., four staff from various departments were reimbursed for food and lodging to attend the 3-day "Climate Reality Leadership Corps" training in Pittsburgh, PA in October 2017).
